Nockamixon Tournaments 2006

On The Record

In addition to the all-tackle world record(10pounds, 14ounces), the International Game Fish Association (IGFA) lists six individual freshwater line-class records for smallmouth bass. Only one of those records belongs to a fish caught within its historic range, and that was an 8-pound trophy that was caught in 1999 at Lake Erie. Otherwise, the rest of the records belong to southern smallmouth as follows:

2-POUND TEST: 7-0, Pickwick Lake, Tennessee

4-POUND TEST: 8-0, Lake Erie, Ohio

6 POUND TEST: 8-9, Pickwick Lake, Tennessee

8 POUND TEST: 10-8, Hendricks Creek, Kentucky

12 POUND TEST: 9-6, Lake Jocassee, South Carolina

16 POUND TEST: 8-6, Pickwick Lake, Tennessee

ALL-TACKLE: 10-14, Dale Hollow Res., Tennessee

Snakeheads Spawning in Pennsylvania Fisheries

Thanks to evidence gathered by a fisherman this past summer, officials have definite proof that northern snakeheads are reproducing in waters that tie directly to the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers. Six snakeheads were reported in July 2004 from lakes in FDR Park. The lakes in FDR Park are linked to the rivers by tidal flow. The Pennsylvania Fish Commission says the odds are good that the predatory invaders are already in the waterways. The mature snakeheads are of impressive size, two of which were 18 inches long.
